LONDON: Pakistan captain Babar Azam is likely to return for the second Test against England at Lord’s, scheduled to begin on 27 August.

Babar, 31, missed the series opener due to an injury he sustained during his side’s practice match against PCC Select XI.

According to reports, the team’s management is considering a couple of changes and is hopeful of Babar’s return. The right-hander, if fit, will replace Azan Awais in the line-up.

However, the final playing XI will be decided after assessing the conditions.

Meanwhile, another change under consideration is wicket-keeper batter Mohammad Rizwan, who could be rested.

Apart from changes in the batting line-up, Pakistan could opt for two spinners if the pitch is dry and offers turn.

Fast bowler Ubaid Shah is also in contention for the second Test, with his pace potentially giving him an advantage in the selection process.

England wrapped up the first Test on Friday with a commanding innings victory after Pakistan were bowled out for 118 in their second innings.

Stand-in captain Salman Ali Agha later acknowledged that England had outplayed his side and pointed to mistakes and Pakistan’s inability to adapt to the conditions as key factors behind the defeat.

Pakistan are 1-0 in the three-match series and will need to win at Lord’s to keep the series alive.
