TRINIDAD: Pakistan top-order batter Abdullah Shafique hailed his unexpected recall to the national Test side after starring in the second Test match against West Indies at Queen’s Park Oval.
Pakistan levelled the two-match Test series against the West Indies 1-1 with an eight-wicket victory on Wednesday.
Abdullah’s scored an unbeaten 160 in the first innings, playing a pivotal role in the visitors’ 43-run first-innings lead. He also remained unbeaten on 24 while chasing the West Indies’ 75-run target.
For his outstanding contribution, he was named the player of the match.
The right-hander earned a recall to the Test side following Shan Masood’s injury. Abdullah had been dropped after a string of low scores towards the end of 2025.

Speaking at the post-match presentation, Abdullah said his recall came at an unexpected time, but he made the most of the opportunity.
“This comeback match felt like a debut for me. I had been working hard for the last one year and was waiting for my opportunity,” he said.
He acknowledged that he had not had many opportunities recently and stressed the importance of staying prepared and working hard for every opportunity.
“It came at an unexpected time, but I grabbed it with both hands. I have played for Pakistan and have the experience under my belt. I have not been able to get opportunities recently, and that happens sometimes. But as a professional, you have to work towards a comeback and give your best,” he added.
