TRINIDAD: Abdullah Shafique and Sajid Khan powered Pakistan to an eight-wicket win over West Indies on day four of the second Test at the Queen’s Park Oval.
Babar Azam and Abdullah scored 24 runs respectively, with the former finishing off the match with consecutive sixes in the 23rd over of the innings.
The victory ensured that Pakistan’s longstanding record of not losing a Test series against the West Indies since 2000 remained intact.
Imam-ul-Haq departed early in a 75-run chase, scoring only nine after facing 13 deliveries. The left-hander was caught at wide slip by Justin Greaves off Jayden Seales’ bowling.
With Pakistan 15-1, Abdullah Shafique paired up with Azan Awais as the duo stitched a 27-run partnership. Azan made 18 from 49, hitting a boundary. Shamar Joseph dismissed the left-hander after he chopped onto his stumps.
The scorecard read 42-2 when Babar joined Abdullah at the crease. The pair batted with composure as lunch was taken, with the visitors still 18 away from a drought-breaking overseas victory.
Babar and Abdullah stitched an unbeaten 35-run partnership to take their side home in a slim run chase.

Earlier, Sajid Khan and Ali Usman shared eight wickets as Pakistan folded West Indies for 117 in the morning session.
Resuming on 103-6, the hosts added only 14 runs before Pakistan’s spin duo wrapped up the innings, leaving Pakistan with a target of 75.
West Indies were a batter short as Brandon King could not bat due to a back injury picked up earlier on day three.
Left-arm spinner Ali Usman bowled Kemar Roach for zero to provide Pakistan a bright start. Shamar Joseph and Just Greaves added a brief 12 before Mohammad Ali castled the latter for three to leave West Indies 115-8.
The last wicket to fall was off Joseph, who scored nine with the help of two fours. The left-hander came down the track and was stumped by Mohammad Rizwan.
For Pakistan, Sajid Khan and Ali Usman picked up four wickets each, while Mohammad Ali claimed one.
