DARWIN: Australia captain Pat Cummins opened up after his side suffered a crushing nine-wicket defeat to Bangladesh by nine wickets in the first Test at Marrara Stadium on Sunday.
The visitors pulled off a historic victory in their first and only second tour down under in 23 years.
Speaking to the media, Cummins addressed Australia’s batting issues at the top of the order and said they had prepared well for the upcoming series.
“I thought our preparation was pretty much spot-on. I thought it was excellent, so, yeah, no excuse,” Cummins said.
“It’s one test, but it’s also a little bit of a trend as well,” he added.
“So it’s trying to work out, do you need to intervene now or do you let it play out and you think it’s the way forward?
“Is there something there that’s going to take us forward, or is it something that’s starting to become a trend that we think needs to be changed.”

He admitted that Bangladesh outplayed Australia in all departments of the game and played better cricket than his side.
“They were a much better side than us this week,” he said. I thought they outplayed us in all facets, really.”
“They were really patient, just didn’t really let us back in, held onto their catches,” he continued.
The skipper lamented a lackluster start on a good batting wicket and rued the missed opportunities.
“I felt like we just didn’t get off to a great start and kind of once you are behind on a pretty good wicket against a pretty good side, it was kind of really hard to wrestle the momentum back.”
