DARWIN: Bangladesh fast bowler Hasan Mahmud joined former Pakistan pacer Wasim Akram in the elite list of visiting bowlers to record the best figures in their maiden Test in Australia. 

Bangladesh stunned Australia after securing a nine-wicket win at the Marrara Stadium on Sunday.

The architects of the victory were all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Hasan Mahmud, with both players delivering commendable performances.

Mehidy scored a vital half-century in the first innings and backed it up with a five-wicket haul in the second, while Hasan destroyed the Australian batting lineup with his six-wicket haul.

Overall, the 26-year-old picked up nine wickets in the historic win for Bangladesh on Australian soil. The right-arm pacer tore through the home side’s batting lineup in the first innings.

He picked up six wickets in Australia’s first innings to bowl them out for just 198 on day one.

Hasan then followed it up by scalping three more in the second innings to play a big role in the Tigers’ memorable win down under.

With his record-breaking spell, he registered the third-best Test figures by a visiting bowler in his first Test match in Australia.
