LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Tuesday confirmed the appointment of former South African cricketer Michael Smith as the batting coach of the national men’s team.
The 46-year-old, who featured in 89 first-class matches, 72 List-A matches, and 16 T20 matches from 2003 to 2013, will work with the team across both red-ball and white-ball formats.
A Level 4-qualified coach, Smith has built a strong reputation through his coaching work and is familiar with Pakistan cricket after serving in the coaching staff of three Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchises: Islamabad United, Karachi Kings and Multan Sultans.

He has also worked as a batting coach with Australia’s Hobart Hurricanes and Cricket Tasmania. Moreover, he has also worked with South Africa’s KZN Inland and Eastern Province as a coaching consultant.
“Smith, who has been appointed for a two-year term, will join the Pakistan team ahead of the three-match Test series against England, commencing on 19 August,” the PCB stated in the press release.
Pakistan will begin their England tour with the first Test at Headingley in Leeds from August 19 to 23.
The second match of the series will be played at Lord’s from August 27 to 31 before the teams meet in the final Test at Edgbaston in Birmingham from September 9 to 13.
