COLOMBO: Sri Lanka spinner Prabath Jayasuriya has received an official reprimand during the ongoing second Test against India for hitting the boundary wedges with his bat.
Jayasuriya was handed a reprimand and received one demerit point for breaching Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to the abuse of cricket equipment, clothing, ground equipment, fixtures or fittings during an international match.
The incident occurred after Jayasuriya was dismissed with the final delivery of the second day on Monday. The left-arm spinner was seen striking the boundary wedges with his bat while walking back towards the pavilion following his dismissal.

The demerit point is Jayasuriya’s first in the previous 24 months.
Jayasuriya admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by Andy Pycroft of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, meaning a formal hearing was not required.
The charge was brought by on-field umpires Ahsan Raza and Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid, third umpire Rod Tucker and fourth umpire Prageeth Rambukwella.
Jayasuriya becomes the third player to be sanctioned in the Colombo Test, following India batter Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sri Lanka fast bowler Asitha Fernando.
