Fast bowler Naveen-ul-Haq have been added to Afghanistan’s 15-member squad for three home T20Is against India.
Ibrahim Zadran will lead the side for the first time as a full-time captain in T20Is. The series will be played at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi from 13 to 17 September.
Naveen returns after an injury layoff, which saw him miss the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. The right-arm pacer suffered a stress fracture in his right shoulder.
Besides Naveen’s inclusion, the pace attack is similar to that of the previous series against West Indies in UAE, featuring Fazalhaq Farooqi, Abdullah Ahmadzai, and all-rounder Azmatullah Omarzai.
All-rounder Gulbadin Naib has also returned to the side, bolstering the middle order and providing an additional bowling option.
Uncapped batter Noor Rahman has been named for the first time as a second-choice wicketkeeper, due to his impressive performances in domestic cricket.
Afghanistan’s spin core includes Rashid Khan, Noor Ahmed, Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Nangyal Kharoti, alongside Mohammad Nabi.
After the squad announcement, Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Naseeb Khan
“The Afghanistan Cricket Board has always made every effort to select a well-balanced and fully prepared squad for all relevant competitions,” he said.
“We have followed the same approach for the upcoming series against India, and I hope the Afghanistan team will deliver an outstanding performance in these matches,” he added.
