COLOMBO: India wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant surpassed Shubman Gill to become the country’s highest run-scorer in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) during the second Test against Sri Lanka at the Sinhalese Sports Club Ground on Monday.
Pant reached 2948 WTC runs in his 42nd Test, moving 31 runs clear of Gill’s tally of 2917, also accumulated in 42 matches.
The left-hander scored 63 before being dismissed by Keshara Nuwantha with the first delivery of the afternoon session on Day 2 of the ongoing Test.

Pant also achieved another notable milestone during the ongoing Test, surpassing former India captain and wicketkeeper-batter MS Dhoni for the most runs by an Indian wicketkeeper-batter in away and neutral Tests.
The 28-year-old has now scored more than 2,500 runs in such conditions, overtaking Dhoni’s tally of 2,496. Pant has achieved the feat at an average of close to 42, significantly better than Dhoni’s career average of 32.84 in away and neutral Tests.
