BIRMINGHAM: National players Tayyab Aslam and Nasir Iqbal starred in the Men’s double clash against Ghana’s opponents to qualify for the pre-quarterfinal in the Commonwealth Games 2022.
The Pakistan pair displayed absolute dominance over Ghana’s Ayinh Evans and Anafo Clement in the Round of 32 face-off on Thursday to continue their march further in the competition.
In a one-sided clash, the duo left no room for their opponents to push them on the back foot and dominated both sets to run away with a resounding 2-0 victory with the scores of 11-1 and 11-1.
Tayyab and Nasir will now face Scotland’s Greg Lobban and Rory Stewart in the pre-quarterfinal on Friday and have become a potential hope for another medal for Pakistan in the Games.
Nasir will now team up with his fellow Faiza Zafar to take on New Zealand’s Joelle King and Paul Coll in the Round of 16 Mixed Doubles. Whereas, Amna Fayyaz and Faiza will lock horns with Malaysia’s Rachel Arnold and Aifa Azman in the Round of 16 Women’s doubles.
