Sydney Sixers beat Adelaide Strikers in a thriller

SYDNEY: Sydney Sixers chased down 148 in the last over to seal a thrilling victory over Adelaide Strikers in their Big Bash League’s fixture, today.

The sixers required just six runs in the last over, with four wickets in hand, Hayden Kerr, hit a six on the second ball of the penultimate over to seal a thrilling victory for his side.

Chasing 148, the Sixers, started decently, with their opening pair putting a 44-runs partnership, both the openers appeared to be solid, but, could not go deep. James Vince departed first after scoring 21 off 24 balls scoring three boundaries.

Soon after, Josh Philippe, also, walked back to the pavilion; scoring 23 off just 20 balls, laced with one boundary and as many sixes. Daniel Hughes, too, departed after scoring just seven. The sixers were three down after scoring 63 in the eighth over.

Moises Henriques and Jordan Silk, however, anchored the innings together, with a brilliant partnership; setting the tone for the run-chase. The pair added 52 runs into their team’s total before Henriques departed; scoring 28 off 26 deliveries, he hit two boundaries and a maximum. On the very next delivery, Rashid Khan sent Dan Christian back to the pavilion after trapping the batter in legs for a golden duck.

Silk, on the other hand, stood for long, pulling his side out of trouble, the batter departed in the 19th over, after scoring a quickfire 36 off 24 balls, he smashed five boundaries.

Sean Abbott also scored a valuable 19 off 10 balls and remained not-out.

For the Striker, Rashid was impressive; returning with the figures of 3/20, George Garton, on the other hand, picked two wickets. Whereas, Fawad Ahmed struck out a batter.

Batting first, the Strikers’ batters struggled throughout the innings, none of them could able to go deep, to assist their side post a defendable total.

Jonathan Wells scored 32 off 19 balls; hitting two boundaries and as many sixes, followed by the top-scorer for the side – Thomas Kelly, who scored 41 off 34, laced with four boundaries. The Strikers, in the end, restricted to 147/8 in 20 overs.

For Sixers, Christian and Abbott, both bagged three wickets, while Kerr and Lloyd Pope both shared one wicket apiece.
