Rohit, Ishan set tone for India to beat West Indies in opening T20I

KOLKATA: Openers Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan set the tone for India to chase down 158 runs against West Indies to win the first T20I of three-match series here on Wednesday. 

Set to chase, Indian openers scored 64 runs together. Rohit scored 40 including three sixes and four boundaries. Whereas, Ishan made 35 with the help of four boundaries.

In the end, Suryakumar Yadav (34*) and Venkatesh Iyer (24*) finished the chase for India in 18.5 overs. Yadav struck five boundaries and a six while Iyer smashed six and two boundaries.

For West Indies, Roston Chase bagged two wickets while Sheldon Cottrell and Fabian Allen shared a wicket apiece.

Earlier, Nicholas Pooran scored 61 laced with five sixes and four boundaries to drive West Indies to 157-7. Kyle Mayers, with the help of seven boundaries, scored 31.

Harshal Patel and Ravi Bishnoi bagged two wickets each for India.
