Brathwaite, Roach star as West Indies thump Bangladesh in first Test

ANTIGUA: John Campbell starred with the bat finishing off the first Test in style with a six as West Indies chased the meager target of 88 runs with seven wickets to spare against Bangladesh in the second innings on the fourth day, here on Sunday.

West Indies dominated the opponents throughout the match whereas the fourth day finished early as the hosts needed only seven overs to score 35 required runs. Campbell scored an unbeaten 58 in the second inning to take his side home.

Kemar Roach was awarded Player of the Match for his sensational bowling throughout the match as he took a five-wicket haul in the second inning while grabbing two wickets in the first.

Bangladesh, on the other hand, scored 245 runs in the second innings after they were completely thrashed out in the first innings as the West Indies wrapped up their batting on 103 with a record six ducks.

West Indies, earned a handsome lead of 162 runs when they were bowled out on 265 in the first inning, thanks to the sublime knock of 94 by the skipper Kraigg Brathwaite coupled with Jermaine Blackwood’s outstanding 63 runs.

Meanwhile, the touring side took a toll on the West Indies batting on the third day as the pacer Khaled Ahmed stormed through the top order.

The hosts were struggling at 9/3 in the second inning before Cambell and Blackwood combined brilliantly to reach the target without losing any more wickets.
