KARACHI: The Queen’s Baton of the 2022 Commonwealth Games kicked off its tour of Pakistan after being displayed here at Sindh Madressa-Tul-Islam University.
In its three-day tour, the Baton will be taken to different places in the metropolis. The places also include Jinnah Museum at Mazar-e-Quaid.
The baton bearers include athletes such as Jahangir Khan (Former World Squash Champion), Hassan Sardar and Rasheed ul Hassan (Hockey World Champions and Olympians), Muhammad Inam Butt (World Beach Wrestling Champion and Commonwealth Games Gold Medallist), Olympians Arshad Nadeem and Talha Talib and Mahoor Shahzad.
It must be noted here that the Baton will tour all the Commonwealth nations and territories. The Games will be held from 28 July to 8 August.
President CGA Pakistan, Lt Gen Syed Arif Hasan HI(M) (Retd) said: “It is fantastic to have the Baton arrived in Pakistan today. Its arrival signifies an exciting moment in the lead up to the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, and I’m really looking forward to the various visits and activities during its time here.”
