LONDON: Opening batter Imam-ul-Haq has suffered a low-grade calf strain during the ongoing second Test against England at Lord’s, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed on Friday.
Imam picked up the injury to his left calf while fielding on the opening day of the Test on Thursday. Scans subsequently confirmed a low-grade strain, with the left-hander now undergoing treatment under the supervision of Pakistan’s medical team.
The PCB revealed Imam’s participation in the remainder of the Test will depend on his recovery following treatment.
Imam was replaced in the field by Salman Ali Agha after sustaining the injury. Salman, who captained Pakistan in the opening Test at Headingley, was not included in the playing XI for the Lord’s Test but entered the field as a substitute.
Salman immediately made an impact with a spectacular catch to dismiss Jordan Cox. Cox had scored 55 off 105 deliveries, including seven fours, before falling to Khurram Shahzad. Salman timed his jump perfectly to his right and completed an outstanding catch with his outstretched right hand.
Imam had a difficult outing with the bat in the opening Test, scoring 42 in the first innings before being dismissed for a duck in the second as Pakistan suffered an innings and 103-run defeat.
