PCB gets sponsor for Pathway Cricket Programme

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has got the sponsor for its Pathway Cricket Programme to sponsor 100 junior cricketers.

In a statement released on the official website of the PCB, the cricket board shared that the Engro Corporation Limited will bear the cost of high-performance coaches hired by the PCB to coach teenagers enrolled in the programme.

BRB group, on the other hand, will directly sponsor the junior cricketers — who will receive the monthly retainers of PKR 30,000 and free education.

On this occasion, chairman PCB Ramiz Raja expressed his excitement by comparing the initiative to him scoring a century on debut at Lord’s.

“Today is a special day for me, I took the charge as the PCB Chairman with some dreams and the pathway cricket programme is surely one of them. It feels like scoring a century on debut at Lord’s,” he stated.

The PCB chairman then thanked the sponsors – BRB Group and Engro Corporation claiming that the Pathway Cricket Programme is close to his heart.

“We want to thank the BRB Group for their support for the PCB Pathway Cricket Programme that will shape the future of Pakistan cricket. I have personally taken great interest in the project and it remains very close to my heart,” he was quoted as saying.

“One of our major objectives is to invest in pathway cricket to ensure our future cricketers get the best possible training, grooming, education and financial support. I am delighted with the progress we have made in a short span of time. We have identified talented players who are in their early to late teens and are the future of Pakistan cricket, we will now fully focus on the development of their cricket, education and basic life skills,” he added.

“Through this three-year initiative, participants of the PCB Pathway Cricket Programme will be coached by some of the leading coaches from around the world under the Engro Cricket Coaching Project. The agreement that we have reached with Engro Corporation can potentially revolutionise pathway cricket in Pakistan.”
