DUBAI: Australia fast bowler Mitchell Starc ended India’s Jasprit Bumrah’s reign as the No. 1 ranked bowler in the latest ICC Test rankings released on Wednesday.
The 36-year-old moved up two places, leaving New Zealand’s Matt Henry and Bumrah behind to climb to the summit position for the first time in his illustrious career.
Starc has been inside the top 10 rankings for a large part of his 15-year Test career and recently broke into the top three following last year’s Ashes series
Meanwhile, Bumrah had held the No.1 position since 2024. However, an injury ruled him out of the Sri Lanka Tests, resulting in a decline in his ranking.
Starc’s rise came on the back of his stellar bowling display against Bangladesh in the second Test of the two-match series. He tore through the Tigers’ batting lineup, picking up 10 wickets to help Australia draw the series 1-1.

His heroics also earned him the player of the series award.
Australia captain Pat Cummins was also among the gainers, moving one place to fourth, while spinner Nathan Lyon entered the top 10 after moving up two places.
England fast bowling duo Ollie Robinson and Josh Tongue also made huge strides on the back of their devastating performance against Pakistan in the first Test at Headingley.
The duo picked up five wickets, with Robinson climbing 15 spots to 11th place, while Tongue leaped 16 rungs to 17th overall.
Noman Ali remained Pakistan’s only bowler in the top-10 Test rankings while Mohammad Abbas dropped seven places to 25th.
In batting, England’s Harry Brook continued to hold the top position, while Joe Root remained in second. Australian duo of Steve Smith and Travis Head occupied third and fourth places, respectively.
