Melbourne Renegades beat Adelaide Strikers in a thriller

MELBOURNE: Melbourne Renegades beat Adelaide Strikers by two runs in the thriller of the Big Bash League at the Docklands Stadium on Tuesday.

James Pattinson, bowled the final over of the match, defending nine runs successfully to help his side defeat Strikers by two runs in a nail-biting contest.

Chasing 154, Strikers were off to a decent start. The opening pair provided a decent 45-run stand, but both the openers were sent back to the pavilion on a combined score of 50. Jake Weatherald scored 18 off 17 balls including two boundaries, while Matthew Short smashed 29 off 18 balls laced with one boundary and two sixes.

Later, Harry Nielsen struck 30 including just one boundary, he was a touch too slow for his top-score for the side.

Soon after, the wickets began to tumble and the Strikers were reduced to 151/8 in 20 overs, losing the game by just two runs.

Zahir Khan was the stand-out bowler for his side, taking three wickets, while Will Sutherland took two wickets. Kane Richardson, Pattinson and Reece Topley each struck out a batter.

Batting first, Renegades also started their innings well as their openers put on a solid 65-run stand. Soon after, the wickets began to fall at an alarming rate, which pretty much slowed down the proceedings and Renegades were eventually restricted to 153/9 in 20 overs. The side lost their last seven wickets for just 39 runs.

Peter Siddle bagged three wickets for Strikers, while Daniel Worrall and George Garton each took two wickets. Whereas, Rashid Khan and Short shared one wicket apiece.
