Kiwis to wear black armbands in second ODI to mourn Murray’s death

KARACHI: New Zealand cricket team will wear black armbands during today’s second ODI against Pakistan to mourn the death of its former Test cricketer Bruce Murray.

Murray, who played 13 Test for New Zealand between 1968 and 1971, died on Tuesday aged 82. He was also a historian, educator and author. He was the grandfather of White Ferns Amelia and Jess Kerr.

The right-handed opener, Murray, scored 598 runs at an average of 23.92, including five fifties. He played a leading role in New Zealand’s first Test and a series win against the hosts Pakistan in 1969.

The New Zealand ODI side, led by Kane Williamson, will pay their tributes to Murray by wearing black bands in the second match against the hosts Pakistan at National Bank Cricket Arena.

Blackcaps are currently 1-0 behind Pakistan in the three-match series after a six-wicket defeat in the first ODI on Monday.
