Cricket Australia accepts Justin Langer’s resignation as men’s head coach

MELBOURNE: Cricket Australia (CA) has accepted the resignation of Justin Langer the head coach of the men’s national team, Langer stepped down from the position after rejecting a short-term extension, here on Saturday.

Langer, who coached the Australian side to the side’s first-ever T20 World Cup triumph has stepped down from the coaching role after rejecting the short-term extension from his position.

Taking to Twitter, CA confirmed that the cricketing body has accepted Langer’s decision and Andrew McDonald will step up into the role of the interim head coach and is likely to travel to the historic tour of Pakistan as the same.

 

Langer’s contract was previously due to expire in June, however, the 51-years-old decided to relinquish the position four months ahead.

The management team of CA while accepting Langer’s resignation from the role and also revealed that the resignation is effective immediately.

It is worth mentioning here that Langer coached Australia from May 2019 till February 2022. The side won the home Ashes series; defeating England by 4-0 and the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 triumph under his coaching tenure.
