JAKARTA: Indian Hockey Team produced an astonishing performance to march into the next round of the ongoing Asia Cup, here on Thursday.
India, which needed to defeat Indonesia by a gigantic 16-goal margin to move to the next round of the Asia Cup, put up an astounding performance to advance further in the tournament, outclassing the hosts 16-0.
After a tie against Pakistan and a loss to the incumbent Asian Champion Japan, the men in blue were ranked third in Group A. However, after a stunning victory over Indonesia, the team was able to dethrone Pakistan from second place.
Pakistan has been eliminated from the ongoing event as a result of India’s qualification. The removal of the green shirts also prevented the team from qualifying for the World Cup.
To summarise their campaign, the Green Shirts lost, won, and drew one match each in the group stages. Pakistan held off arch-rival India for a hard-fought draw before hammering Indonesia 13-0. The team, on the other hand, lost their only match today, 3-2, to reigning champion Japan.
