‘I have a healthy competition with Rizwan’ Sarfaraz Ahmed

KARACHI: The skipper of Quetta Gladiators – Sarfaraz Ahmed turned down the claims of his ties with Mohammad Rizwan, said he has a healthy competition with the 29-years-old.

Speaking in ARY News’ show Bouncer, Sarfaraz said there is no such thing as a tie with Rizwan, added that he believes that the two wicketkeepers are healthy competitors.

“I don’t think there is a tie between us; I think it’s a competition, and it’s good to compete,” Sarfaraz said.

Sarfaraz also lauded the brilliant ongoing run of Rizwan, said he takes motivation from him as a competitor.

“I think that is the beauty of the competition, if your competitor does well then it also motivates you to do even better. It’s a healthy competition for me and I am enjoying it,” he added.

Sarfaraz went on to say that the 34-years-old has also set Rizwan’s world record as the benchmark and would love to break the record if he gets the opportunity.

Team combination of Quetta Gladiators

While talking about the preparations for the upcoming seventh edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Sarfaraz shared that he is satisfied with the line-up, however, urged the management to ensure the availability of the foreign players by the commencement of the bio-secure bubble.

“I believe the acquisition of foreign players is critical because, because of the pandemic, it is becoming quite difficult to obtain the services of players for the entire season, and I believe this factor affected us last season when our go-to players were unable to blend into the team.,” Sarfaraz said.

“I, therefore, requested the team management to ensure the availability at the commencement of the bio-secure bubble so that they can train alongside us and the right combination could be put together,” he added.

Furthermore, the wicket-keeper batter added that the team will leave the past behind them and focus on doing well on the field.

Playing under the captaincy of Babar Azam

On being asked about how the former captain feels while playing under the captaincy of Babar Azam, Sarfaraz said it’s a cycle that must go on and he does not feel bad about that.

“However, I am overjoyed that the players who played with me are now in charge of the national team.,” he said.

He also lauded the captaincy skills of Babar and said he is doing exceptionally well.

A heated exchange with Shaheen Afridi in PSL 6

Sarfaraz, for the first time, talked on-air about his heated exchange with Shaheen Afridi in the previous edition of the PSL.

“I think it was a heat of the moment and nothing else. There are no differences between us, we share the same dressing rooms, dine together and visit each other’s rooms,” he said.

Sarfaraz, however, said that the things from the field should remain there, it should not come out of it.
