ISLAMABAD: Hamza Khattak of Peshawar Club seized an early lead in the first round of the Federal Amateur Golf Championship’s amateur category, here on Friday.

Hamza, who lost a stroke each on holes 2, 4, and 10 carded three birdies at the same time, which propelled the golfer to finish at the score of par after the conclusion of the opening round.

Qasim Khan, Salman Khan, and Noman Asghar, on the other hand, tied for the second place after the first round of 18 holes, each carding two over.

Noman, who started the day on a high note by shooting two under 34, was derailed by a sequence of bogies on the back nine, finishing with two over for the day.

Pakistan’s top golfer Omar Khalid had a similar start to Noman but two double bogies resulted in him finishing the day at three over 75 for the opening day.

The professional tournament Jinnah Development Golf Tour, on the other hand, got off to an interesting start with Mohammad Waqar (ICGC), Mohammad Asif, Haroon Rashid, and Mohammad Saqib all shooting two under 70 to tie for first place after the first round.

It is apropos to mention here that around 185 golfers from across the country are participating in the event, which will also feature an exhibition match between the diplomats.
