Rahkeem Cornwall slams first T20 double century

ATLANTA: West Indies Test specialist Rahkeem Cornwall made his presence felt in the ongoing Atlanta Open 2022 as he decimated Square Drive’s bowling line-up to become the first batter to amass the 200-run mark in T20 cricket.

In the Atlanta Open 2022 fixture between Atlanta Fire and Square Drive, the West Indian all-rounder stole the show as he smashed a 77-ball 205.

Coming out to bat first on the invitation of Square Drive, Atlanta Fire openers Cornwall and Steven Taylor started strongly as the pair accumulated 101 runs for the first wicket before the latter fell in the seventh over.

Taylor, too, was impressive as he smashed a quickfire half-century; scoring 53 runs off 18 deliveries.

Following his departure, Cornwall then partnered strongly with Pakistan-based batter Sami Aslam and worked in tandem, taking the opposition bowlers to the cleaners.

The pair added an unbeaten 225 runs for the second wicket and powered the Fire to a mammoth 326/1 in the allotted 20 overs.

Cornwall scored an astounding 205 off a mere 77 deliveries with the help of 17 boundaries and 22 sixes.

With his magnificent knock, Cornwall became the first batter to score a double hundred in T20 cricket, surpassing his countrymate Chris Gayle, who scored the then-highest T20 score of 175 in the sixth edition of the Indian Premier League in 2013.
