Women’s Asia Cup: Bangladesh pacer Fariha bags hat-trick on debut

SYLHET: Young Bangladesh pacer Fariha Trisna registered herself in the records book as she became only the second bowler to bag a hat-trick on her T20I debut and powered her side to thrash Malaysia by 88 runs in the ongoing Women’s Asia Cup 2022.

In the 11th match of the continental event, the defending champions set Malaysia to chase a commendable 130, thanks to their skipper Nigar Sultana, who smashed a belligerent half-century.

Trisna then triggered a match-defining collapse in the sixth over of Malaysia’s innings and struck thrice in as many deliveries to power her side to bundle out the opposition for a paltry 41.

The left-arm pacer castled Malaysian captain Winifred Duraisingam (5) on the second delivery of her third over before trapping Mas Elysa (0) in her legs on the next delivery.

The 20-year-old pacer then deceived Mahirah Izzati Ismail with an inswinger to complete her astonishing hat-trick.

Following her remarkable achievement, Trisna became the second Bangladeshi bowler to bag a hat-trick in the shortest format of the game.

Fahima Khatun was the first Bangladeshi woman to claim a hat-trick.
