MACKAY: Bangladesh will have the opportunity to climb to third place in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) standings when they face Australia in the second and final Test at the Great Barrier Reef Arena in Mackay from August 22.
Bangladesh stunned Australia by nine wickets in the opening Test in Darwin last week, securing their first Test victory on Australian soil and earning widespread praise for one of the biggest wins in their Test history.
The historic result came in only Bangladesh’s third attempt in Australia, making them the fastest team from the subcontinent to register a Test victory in the country. India needed 12 Tests to achieve the feat, while Pakistan took seven.
They currently sit fourth with three wins from five Tests and can overtake New Zealand for third place if they beat Australia again in Mackay and complete a 2-0 series sweep.

However, Australia will be determined to prevent Bangladesh from completing a historic series victory and will look to bounce back after an unusually poor performance in Darwin.
Australia have never lost both Tests of a two-match home series, but face that possibility after being comprehensively outplayed in the opener.
The hosts have already made a significant change to their batting line-up, bringing Matt Renshaw into the side after Jake Weatherald struggled in both innings of the opening Test on his home ground.
