Babar becomes fastest Asian to reach 10,000 international runs mark

GALLE: Pakistan national team captain Babar Azam has touched another milestone completing 10,000 international runs across all formats to become the fastest Asian batter to reach the landmark.

Babar achieved the historic feat when he reached 21 runs on the second day of the first Test against Sri Lanka, here on Sunday.

With the achievement, the Pakistan skipper becomes the fifth-fastest batter to mark 10,000 runs in international cricket in the record 228 innings, surpassing India’s Virat Kohli and Australia’s Steve Smith as both took 232 innings to achieve the feat.

Meanwhile, West Indies legendary batter Sir Vivian Richards tops the list of the fastest to the 10,000 runs marks in international cricket in just 206 innings.

Babar also became the fastest Pakistan batter to achieve the milestone surpassing legendary batter Javed Miandad.

Overall, he became the 11th Pakistan batter to reach the landmark joining the likes of Miandad, Saeed Anwar, Mohammad Yusuf, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Younis Khan, Misbah-ul-Haq, Saleem Malik, Mohammad Hafeez, Shoaib Malik, Shahid Afridi.

The 27-year-old batter has played 40 Test matches so far and has scored 2,851 runs at an average of 45.98 including 6 centuries and 21 half-centuries.

In One Day Internationals, the right-handed batter has scored 4,442 in 87 innings at an average of 59.22 including 17 centuries and 19 half-centuries. Meanwhile, he has featured in 74 T20I matches scoring 2686 runs at an average of 45.52  including 26 half-centuries and a century.
