Aqib Javed reveals Pakistan's latest 150kph pace prospect

LAHORE: Pakistan men’s team selector Aqib Javed has revealed that the board has identified a fast bowler capable of bowling at 150 kph.

Aqib highlighted Pakistan’s pace bowling in an interview with former captain Salman Butt, admitting that the country currently lacked genuine pacers and fast-bowling all-rounders.

“Our weak links are all-round pace bowlers and genuine fast bowlers. We have gathered them. Resources are there. Ali, Raza, Abdul Subhan, and Razaullah can bowl at 145 km/h,” he said.

The former fast bowler also disclosed that the PCB had discovered another exciting prospect from Jhang who could bowl even quicker.

“We have found a new gem from Jhang, Qayyum, who can bowl at 150 kmph and even faster,” he added.

The 53-year-old said the board planned to develop these bowlers during the ongoing summer training program to prepare them for the upcoming domestic season.

“We want to train them enough this summer so that we can introduce them in the upcoming season. Pakistan cricket is incomplete without fast bowlers. Pakistan would have three to four bowlers who would bowl at 150. This is our mission, and we are close to accomplishing it,” Aqib noted.

It is worth mentioning that Pakistan’s pacers have delivered underwhelming performances over the past couple of years. The decline was evident in the recently concluded Test series against Bangladesh, where key pacers, including attack spearhead Shaheen Afridi, failed to consistently clock speeds of 140 kmph.

On the contrary, Bangladesh’s pace attack proved lethal, with Nahid Rana, in particular, unsettling Pakistan’s batting line with extreme pace.

Additionally, the national team pacers have struggled to deliver in ICC events, often losing their way at crucial moments under pressure.
