ABU DHABI: A combined team effort by Moeen Ali-led Morrisville Samp Army saw them earn a last-over victory over Chennai Braves by seven wickets in the seventh Abu Dhabi T10 League match at Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium.
Chennai Braves lost opening batter, Jason Roy, in the first over after opting to bat with only two runs on board.
Kobe Herft then scored 20 runs off 16 balls with one boundary and one six before Qais Ahmed removed him with the scoreboard reading 27-3.
This quickly became 27-6 as Moeen Ali bowled a maiden over and picked two wickets, while Stephen Eskinazi got run out in the same over.
Braves’ skipper Charith Asalanka then took responsibility and added 49 runs in the seventh wicket partnership with Aayan Afzal Khan.
Karim Janat broke the partnership in the ninth over, dismissing Asalanka, who scored 31 off 13, laced with two boundaries and three sixes.
Bhanuka Rajapaksa and Aayan Afzal Khan added 21 runs in the last eight balls to raise the team’s total to 97-7 in their ten overs.
Karim Janat and Moeen Ali picked two wickets each, while Jason Holder and Qais Ahmed managed one each.

Morrisville Samp Army in their pursuit got off to a flying start with a 59-run opening stand between Andries Gous and Faf du Plessis.
Mohammad Nabi broke the stand in the sixth over, when Du Plessis was caught by Munsey after scoring 31 runs from 16 balls, featuring three sixes and one boundary.
Skipper Moeen Ali joined Gous but was castled in the next over by Junaid Siddique with the scoreboard reading 68-2.
Gous then departed after being run out in the ninth over, after hitting 43 runs in 26 balls with the help of three boundaries and two sixes.
Samp Army needed eight runs in the final over and they achieved the target with Najibullah Zadran finishing the match in style with a six off the penultimate ball.
Junaid Siddique and Mohammad Nabi picked one wicket each for Chennai Braves.
