SYDNEY: Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) is the leading contender to host the final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2028 after 14 cities across Australia and New Zealand submitted bids to stage matches.
The T20 World Cup 2028 will be jointly hosted by Australia and New Zealand in October and November.
According to Code Sports, the organizers invited expressions of interest from prospective host cities, and 14 submitted formal bids to host matches.
The bids will be assessed in accordance with the ICC venue requirements, with an independent evaluation committee assisting organizers in the selection process.
The final list of host cities is expected to be announced by the end of 2026, although the report suggests a decision could be made as early as October 2026.

However, only eight to 10 venues are expected to be finalized, meaning four to six cities are set to miss out.
As per the report, the organizers want to limit the number of venues in an effort to simplify logistics, reduce travel for teams and supporters, and improve operational efficiency throughout the tournament.
The final list of host cities will be decided based on geographical balance, operational efficiency, and commercial considerations.
The MCG is the favorite to host the final, having previously staged the 1992 and 2015 Men’s Cricket World Cup finals, as well as the 2022 Men’s T20 World Cup final.
