Legendary Pakistani batter Zaheer Abbas has stressed the importance of resuming bilateral cricket ties between Pakistan and India.
While speaking at a private event, Zaheer expressed his excitement about the Asian team performing well on the international stage, highlighting the necessity of playing each other in their home countries.
“I get great joy from the success of Asian countries. It’s important for us to unite and work together.” Abbas remarked at an event hosted by his friend VK Tripathi, a retired IRS officer and Urdu poet, at the Cricket Club of India in Mumbai.
“India and Pakistan should face off against each other,” he stated.
Abbas expressed his thoughts on the matter, suggesting that neutral countries should engage in positive dialogue and that teams should play matches in each other’s countries.

“Why neutral countries, talk positive, we should play each other in each other’s country. World Cup, Indians came in large numbers to Pakistan.”
“It is possible again. Matches should happen again, with each nation visit each other. I do not understand why it is not happening. Both countries are neighbours, both love cricket. In my opinion, they should be playing,” said Abbas.
Zaheer Abbas was accompanied by his wife Sameena, who hails from Kanpur.
The evening also saw Karsan Ghavri, the former Indian all-rounder, and Kenia Jayantilal, the former Test opener, coming together to meet their former teammate.
Ghavri was part of the historic 1978 tour of Pakistan, which is well-remembered for Abbas’s outstanding performance and ability to dominate spin bowling.
