DUBAI: Despite a remarkable T20 World Cup 2022 campaign and finishing as runner-ups of the tournament, Pakistan lost a rating point in the latest ICC Twenty20 team rankings, released on Thursday.
According to the International Cricket Council, Pakistan started the T20 World Cup with 259 points and lost a rating point in the rankings at the end of the tournament as they lost three out of seven matches including the final against England.
However, the national team maintained its third spot on the list, ahead of South Africa, who are just two points behind the Green Shirts.
Meanwhile, the T20 World Cup champions England have inched closer to the table-toppers India, bringing down the difference between the two sides to just two points.
India occupy the top spot with 268 rating points while second-placed England, following their sensational win in the recently concluded megaevent in Australia, gained two points and finish at 265.
Before the start of the World Cup, India (268) were five points ahead of England (263) and before the semi-finals, the gap had even increased to six points.
Moreover, semi-finalist New Zealand (253) and tournament hosts Australia (252) are placed fifth and sixth, respectively.
It is important to note here that India will face New Zealand in a three-match T20I series commencing tomorrow. If the Kiwis whitewash the visitors in the series, England will take over India on the teams rankings.
