DUBAI: Qiana Joseph and Deandra Dottin’s blistering cameos powered West Indies to a thumping six-wicket victory over Scotland in the eighth match of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 at Dubai International Cricket Stadium here on Sunday.
West Indies, while chasing a modest 100-run target, achieved the total with 50 balls to spare after losing four wickets.
Scotland drew first blood with Rachel Slater casting Stafanie Taylor (4) in the first over before Qiana Joseph added 28 runs for the second wicket with Hayley Matthews (8).
Priyanaz Chatterji removed Matthews to break the partnership while new batter Shemaine Campbelle fell prey to Olivia Bell.
Qiana continued her dominant batting display, top-scoring with an 18-ball 31 with the help of three boundaries and one six before falling to Bell.
Deandra Dottin and Chinelle Henry then constructed an unbeaten partnership of 42 runs from 20 balls to steer West Indies to a dominant victory.
Deandra scored 28 runs from 15 balls, laced with two sixes and two fours while Chinelle played an 18-run cameo off 10 balls which included two fours and one six.
Olivia Bell claimed two wickets for Scotland, while Rachel Slater and Priyanaz Chatterji managed one each.

Scotland had an unwanted start after opting to bat first, losing two wickets inside three overs with only 14 runs on the board.
Skipper Kathryn Bryce and Ailsa Lister then knitted a partnership of 46 runs from 58 balls before Afy Fletcher halted Scotland’s momentum.
Fletcher dismissed Lister and Priyanaz Chatterji on back-to-back deliveries to leave Scotland reeling at 59-4. Lister scored 26 off 33 with one boundary.
In her next over, Fletcher removed Bryce after she scored 25 runs from 31 balls to put West Indies in a more dominant position.
Darcey Carter then scored an unbeaten 14 off 15 to push Scotland’s total to 99-8 in their allocated 20 overs.
Afy Fletcher led the bowling attack for West Indies with the figures of 3-22, while Chinelle Henry, Hayley Matthews and Karishma Ramharack bagged one wicket each.
