SHARJAH: Nat Sciver-Brunt played a brilliant knock to steer England to a seven-wicket victory over South Africa in the ninth match of the ongoing ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 at Sharjah Cricket Stadium here on Monday.

While chasing a 125-run target, England achieved the target in the final over with Nat Sciver-Brunt hitting the match-winning boundary.

South Africa dominated the powerplay with the ball as they removed Maia Bouchier early. Marizanne Kapp impressed, starting with a maiden over and recording figures of 1-5 after her first three overs.

However, Danni Wyatt-Hodge and Nat Sciver-Brunt’s 64-run partnership tilted the match completely in England’s favour.

Earlier, South African captain Laura Wolvaardt won the toss and elected to bat. She struck a 39-ball 42 to help her side put up a 124-run total against England’s dominant bowling.

Sophie Ecclestone recorded bowling figures of 2-15, with the key wickets of Wolvaardt and Kapp, while fellow spinners Linsey Smith, Charlie Dean and Sarah Glenn claimed a wicket each.

Heather Knight’s England will return to action for their third match of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 on Sunday (13 October) when they take on Scotland at the same venue.
