Woman, daughter killed after Lucknow’s Stadium billboard collapsed

A woman and her daughter were killed while their driver sustained injuries when a massive billboard collapsed beside Lucknow’s Ekana Cricket Stadium due to a strong windstorm on Monday, Indian media reported.

Following the incident, the mother-daughter duo was rushed to Lohia Hospital but were declared dead by the doctors.

The billboard crushed the vehicle in which Preeti Jaggi, 38, and her daughter Angel, 15, both inhabitants of Indira Nagar colony in the Ghazipur police station area, Gosaiganj assistant commissioner of police (ASP) Amit Kumawat told news agency PTI.

The billboard in front of Lucknow’s Ekana stadium’s gate number two crashed on their vehicle, killing the two, he continued. Sartaj has been hurt and is in the hospital. Additional legal action is being taken.

In a video that circulated on social media, a person, likely Sartaj, can be seen anxiously asking for aid while stuck beneath the ruins of a toppled billboard.

The hoarding most likely was related to the recent IPL games played at Ekana Cricket Stadium. The stadium rose to attention in 2018 when it hosted its first international match.
