West Indies unwilling to scrap ODIs for T20Is against Pakistan

Cricket West Indies (CWI) has reportedly pushed back against the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) proposal to convert the upcoming ODI series into T20Is, making it clear that the original schedule remains in place.

According to sources, the PCB has formally proposed converting the scheduled three-match ODI series into T20Is, citing the need to fine-tune their preparations ahead of the ACC Asia Cup 2025 and the ICC T20 World Cup 2026.

However, CWI seems hesitant to tweak the original plan. CEO Chris Dehring confirmed that discussions are ongoing but maintained that the current schedule stands.

“The schedule remains as it is, and we continue to engage with the PCB on the matter,” Dehring said.

A final decision is expected during the upcoming ICC Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Singapore, where cricket boards of Pakistan and West Indies are likely to meet and discuss the proposal in greater detail.

CWI, still reeling from the disappointment of missing out on the 2023 ODI World Cup, reportedly sees the 50-over format as crucial to their rebuilding process, a key reason behind their reluctance to drop the ODI leg.

Despite the uncertainty, CWI has already started ticket sales for the full white-ball series, signalling a firm stance on sticking to the original plan.

The three-match T20I series is scheduled for July 31, August 2, and August 3 in Lauderhill, Florida. The ODIs are slated for August 8, 10, and 12 in Trinidad.

Meanwhile, Pakistan are currently in Bangladesh for a three-match T20I series, with games lined up on July 20, 22, and 24 in Dhaka.
