West Indies breeze past UAE after Brandon King’s maiden ton

SHARJAH: Brandon King smashed his first One-Day international century to help West Indies seal a seven-wicket victory over UAE in the first match of the three-ODI series on Sunday.

Electing to bat first, UAE made 202 all-out with the help of debutant Ali Naseer’s half-century and Vriitya Aravind’s 40 from 77 balls.

For West Indies, Keemo Paul led the bowling charge, picking up three wickets for 34 runs, while Dominic Drakes, Odean Smith and Yannic Cariah bagged two wickets each.

Chasing a paltry total of 203, West Indies reached the finish line in just 35.2 overs thanks to newly appointed vice-captain Brandon King’s superb knock of 112 runs on as many balls.

Meanwhile, Shamarh Brooks and Johnson Charles also made valuable contributions of  44 and 24, respectively.

UAE were able to pick only three wickets with Aayan Afzal Khan, Zahoor Khan, and Rohan Mustafa taking scalps apiece.

With the resounding win, visitors West Indies took a 1-0 lead in the series as the two sides will next meet on Tuesday for the second ODI.
