West Indies batter Brandon King doubtful for remainder of T20 World Cup 2024

West Indies opening batter Brandon King is doubtful for the remainder of the T20 World Cup 2024 due to a side strain, which he suffered during the Super Eight match against England.

King gave his team a quick start with a 13-ball 23, which included three boundaries and a massive 101-metre six off Reece Topley.

However, on his 13th ball, he crumbled after coming down the pitch to hit Sam Curran for a boundary. He received brief medical attention before being forced to retire hurt.

Cricket West Indies (CWI) confirmed on social media that the opening batter has suffered a side strain and will not be able to take the field.

“Brandon King has suffered a side strain and will not return to the field of play in this evening’s match,” CWI said.

Shimron Hetmyer replaced the injured batter as a substitute fielder.

Meanwhile, West Indies suffered their first loss in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 as they failed to defend 180 against the defending champions.

England batters Phil Salt and Jonny Bairstow played dominant knocks to chase the target with 15 balls to spare.

Salt scored an unbeaten 87 off 47, knitted with seven boundaries and five sixes, meanwhile, Bairstow, who scored the winning runs, amassed 48 runs from 26 balls with five boundaries and two sixes.

West Indies will face the co-hosts United States of America (USA) in their second Super Eight match at Kensington Oval, Barbados on Friday.
