Abdullah, Imam stand solid as Pakistan need 278 runs on fifth day

LAHORE: Pakistan need a further 278 runs with a whole day to bat as the openers Abdullah Shafique and Imam-ul-Haq put on an unbeaten 73 runs partnership before the stumps on day four, here at Gaddafi Stadium.

Set to chase 351, the openers provided a solid start to the home side; putting on an unbeaten 73-runs opening partnership. The pair made sure to score at a decent pace and kept the side in the hunt.

Abdullah has scored 27, while Imam is unbeaten on 42. The opening pair will now resume the run chase for Pakistan on the fifth day at 73/0.

Briefly, after Tea, Australian captain Pat Cummins decided to declare the second innings on 227/3 – an over after Steve Smith’s dismissal on 17.

In the second session of day four of the ongoing third Test, Australia extended their lead to a massive 325 as they scored 202/2 at the conclusion of the second session.

Australian opener Khawaja notched up his second century of the ongoing series in the last over of the second session. The left-hander remained unbeaten on 104, Travis Head could only score 11 before the declaration.

Earlier, the top-ranked Test batter Marnus Labuschagne made his way back to the pavilion after attempting to slog Nauman Ali’s delivery. The right-handed batter scored 36 off 58 balls with the help of six boundaries.

The touring side enjoyed an eventful first session of day four despite Warner’s dismissal as they added 86 runs into their overnight score of 11/0 at a decent run rate of 3.18.

In the second last over before the lunch break, Pakistan’s left-arm pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi castled Warner with a magnificent delivery. The left-handed opener walked back to the pavilion after scoring 51 off 91 balls with the help of six boundaries and a six.

For Pakistan, Shaheen and Nauman managed to make one scalp each.
