Vaibhav Sooryavanshi named in India A squad for Sri Lanka tri-series

MUMBAI: Teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has been named in the India A squad for the ODI tri-series featuring Sri Lanka and Afghanistan.

Last year, Sooryavanshi, 13, became the youngest ever player to be bought in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Later that year, he made headlines in IPL after smashing a 35-ball ton. With his feat, the 14-year-old became the youngest centurion in men’s T20 cricket.

Turning out for the Rajasthan Royals, he amassed 252 runs in seven matches at an astonishing strike rate of 206, including a century and one fifty.

His rise continued, as he was also India U19’s highest run-getter in the World Cup earlier this year, including a 175 off 80 balls in the final to help his side clinch the trophy.

The opening match of the tri-series will be played on 9 June, with the final scheduled for 21 June. Following the series, India A will play two first-class matches against Sri Lanka A. The squad for the matches will be announced in due course.
