KARACHI: Former Pakistan Test pacer Usman Shinwari picked wicketkeeper batter Sarfaraz Ahmed as his favourite captain.

Shinwari, in an interview with Youtuber Nadir Ali, was asked to name his favourite captain and the lanky pacer was quick to name wicketkeeper batter Sarfaraz.

“I played international cricket under Sarfaraz’s captaincy mostly and played two to three PSL matches with Babar. But my favourite is Sarfaraz,” said Shinwari.

“Sarfaraz is a wonderful person. During his captaincy, he used to get very angry at times but after the match, he would apologize,” he added.

Usman Shinwari then revealed one thing he would want to adjust in Sarfaraz Ahmed’s style of captaincy.

“If I had to make one adjustment to his captaincy, it would be that whatever he says in the heat of the moment, should not say it on the ground but after the match,” advised Shinwari.

“But that is the only thing while 99 percent of things he does are perfect,” he maintained.

Shinwari further opined that Sarfaraz Ahmed compromised his batting career while leading the national side.

“I think he ruined his batting career in captaincy. He remained captain for four years and was ousted because of this,” shared Shinwari.

“He sometimes batted at number six, sometimes at number seven which means he did not make himself strong. He was a captain, he could have batted up the order, make runs and solidify his position.

“But in those four years, he batted much lesser and compromised his batting career for the sake of the team.”

It is worth mentioning here that Sarfaraz Ahmed is considered one of the most successful Pakistan captains, having won two ICC titles – Champions Trophy and U19 World Cup – and leading his side to 11 consecutive T20I series victories.
