MANCHESTER: English Premier League club Manchester United confirmed the departure of its midfielder, Juan Mata when his contract ends with the club at the end of this month.
“Thank you for dedicating eight years of your career to United, Juan. Everyone at the club wishes you all the best for the future,” said United in a farewell statement to Mata.
The Spanish footballer served the club for eight years after he was transferred from the rivals, Chelsea in January 2014, making 285 appearances for United and scoring 51 goals.
The 34-years old midfielder helped the club to clinch FA Cup, League Cup, and Europa League during his time at Old Trafford.
The Spaniard will follow the suit of Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard, who United announced would also be leaving at the end of their contracts on Wednesday.
The summer of change at Old Trafford began as new manager Erik ten Hag took charge, who attempts to revive the team after it slipped to 6th position in the recently concluded season of the English Premier League.
