The United Arab Emirates (UAE) Women pulled off an unprecedented move in their T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier clash against Qatar, retiring out all 10 of their batters after racing to 192 without loss in just 16 overs.
This match marked the first instance in T20 cricket—both men’s and women’s—where a team dismissed itself by retiring all 10 batters.
Following this, the UAE team bowled out Qatar for just 29 runs, securing an impressive 163-run victory in a match that lasted just over 27.1 overs.
UAE captain Esha Oza and Theertha Satish had toyed with the Qatari bowling attack during their brutal opening stand.
Oza smacked a 51-ball century, which was her third in T20Is, finishing on 113 with 14 fours and five sixes.
Satish was just as aggressive, scoring 74 off 40 balls with 11 boundaries as the pair took UAE to 192 for 0, scoring at a staggering 12 runs per over.
And then, out of nowhere, they retired out. What followed was borderline theatre: one by one, UAE players walked in and straight back out, all being marked ‘retired out,’ until the team was officially 192 all out.
The ICC doesn’t allow declarations in T20Is, so this was their unique workaround. As bizarre as it sounds, this now stands as the highest “all out” score in women’s T20I cricket.
In response, Qatar never looked like they belonged on the same field. Their innings crumbled for just 29 runs in 11.1 overs, featuring seven ducks, four of which fell inside five overs.
Rizpha Bano Emmanuel was the lone warrior with a defiant 20, but once she was run out, the innings folded like a pack of cards.
UAE’s left-arm spinner Michelle Botha claimed 3 for 11 as the rest of Qatar’s lineup offered little to no resistance.
Interestingly, the game featured a record 15 ducks, eight from UAE (all because of the retire outs) and seven from Qatar, the most ever in a women’s T20I.
