KOWLOON: Tornadoes claimed a 55-run emphatic win over Sapphires in the fifth-placing match of the FairBreak Invitational 2023 after a phenomenal combined effort by the bowlers.
Tornadoes bundled out the opposition for a paltry 60 after setting a low target of 116, thanks to three wickets each by Chanida Sutthiruang, Sita Rana Magar and Winifred Duraisinga.
With the win Tornadoes ended their disappointing campaign on a positive note as they finished fifth in the tournament despite ending the league stage without a win.
Sapphires exhibited a dismal batting show since nine of their batters failed to go past the single digit while Katie Mack (11) and Erin Burns (10), barely made it into double figures.
As a result, the whole team was bowled out inside the 15th over.
For Tornadoes, skipper Stafanie Taylor top-scored with 17-ball 24 while Pakistan’s Aliya Riaz played a late cameo of 19 runs from 22 balls.
Sterre Kalis and Mary-Anne Musonda scored 19 and 18 respectively at the top.
