Team Pakistan make inroads in Asian MMA Championship

LAHORE: A total of 12 Pakistan fighters, eight men and four women, advanced into the semi-final stage of the ongoing Asian MMA Championship in respective categories.

In an eventful second day of the Asian MMA Championship, which featured 33 matches, saw Pakistan’s Abdul Manan, Zeeshan Akbar, Muhammad Aroz Saleem Baig, Taimur Chishty, Abdul Sami, Asghar Khan, Shahab Ali and Zulqarnain Khan, advancing into the Men’s semi-finals of different weight categories.

Representing Team Pakistan in the Flyweight category, Manan outclassed Team Kyrgizstan’s Avazbek Tairov to advance further while Zeeshan triumphed over Islam Nazarmukhamedov in the Bantamweight duel.

In the Lightweight category, Shahab Ali downed Team Iran’s Daryush Khanlari to book his semi-final with Team Lebanon’s Fadi Jaber.

Pakistan fighters were equally impressive in the women’s category as four of their fighters, Bushra Ahmed, Eman Khan, Bushra Akhtar and Bano Butt, made it to the semi-finals in their respective categories.

Bano will square off against Team India’s Khushboo Nishad in the semi-final of the Women’s Atomweight category.

The Asian Championship of MMA is being held in Pakistan for the first time, while Brave Combat Federation marked its return to Pakistan after a six-year gap.

This Asian MMA Championship, scheduled from 18th to 22nd August 2024, is being broadcast live on Pakistan’s first HD sports channel, A Sports, and simultaneously streamed on ARY ZAP.

A total of 12 countries are participating in the Asian Championship, featuring more than 180 fighters, 120 officials, and 120 technical staff will participate in the competitions.
