Former Bangladesh cricketer Tamim Iqbal has been discharged from the hospital on Friday, after suffering a heart attack during a domestic match earlier this month.
The 36-year-old will be under observation for the next few weeks after having an angioplasty surgery on Monday.
Tamim was leading the Mohammedan Sporting Club against Shinepukur Cricket Club at BKSP when he suffered a severe heart attack, sending shockwaves through the cricketing world.
Despite receiving initial medical attention, his condition worsened, prompting an emergency transfer to Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Memorial KPJ Specialized Hospital in Savar for further tests.
Renowned cardiologist Dr Moniruzzaman Maruf performed a successful emergency procedure, stabilizing Tamim’s condition.

According to Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) officials, Tamim Iqbal underwent a stenting procedure to clear a blockage in his coronary artery.
The former opener has now been discharged from Evercare Hospital in Dhaka, and local media outlets reported that the doctors have expressed hope that he will be able to return to cricket soon.
“After monitoring his condition, we have decided to discharge him today. We hope he will be able to return to cricket soon, ” said Dr Shahabuddin Talukder of the Evercare Hospital.
“However, he must follow a strict rehabilitation programme and make lifestyle changes to aid his recovery.”
It is worth noting here that Tamim Iqbal is Bangladesh’s record run-scorer in ODIs. He has represented his country 391 times across all formats, scoring 15,249 runs.
Although the veteran batter is retired from international cricket, he still plays domestic cricket.
