DALLAS: USA batter Aaron Jones lit the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 and achieved a unique feat with a fiery 94-run knock in the opening match against Canada, leading his side to a thumping victory here at Grand Prairie Stadium on Saturday.
During his unbeaten innings of 94 off 40, he smashed 10 sixes, becoming the only second batter to hit 10 or more sixes in a T20 World Cup match after West Indies legend Chris Gayle.
The West Indian struck ten sixes against South Africa during the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007.
Meanwhile, Gayle also holds the record for most sixes in a T20 World Cup game as he struck 11 sixes in the 2016 edition against England.

USA, who are the co-host of this year’s edition along with West Indies, were set to chase 195, which they successfully did with 14 balls to spare.
Jones came down to bat with USA requiring 153 off 81 balls and turned things around with Andries Gous, scoring 131 runs for the third wicket in only 58 balls.
The partnership was dominated by Jones, who smashed Canadian bowlers all across the park, while Gous scored a 46-ball 65, featuring seven boundaries and three sixes.
Jones continued the onslaught after Gous’ wicket, ending the game in the 18th over with a massive six over the deep midwicket boundary.
