NORTH SOUND: Bangladesh have won the toss and chose to field first against India in a crucial Super Eight fixture of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 here at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium on Saturday.
Bangladesh make one change to their line-up as Jaker Ali comes in for Taskin Ahmed while India are unchanged.
India: Rohit Sharma (c), Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant (wk), Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Jasprit Bumrah, Kuldeep Yadav, Arshdeep Singh.
Bangladesh: Tanzid Hasan, Litton Das (wk), Najmul Hossain Shanto (c), Shakib Al Hasan, Towhid Hridoy, Mahmudullah, Mahedi Hasan, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, Rishad Hossain, Jaker Ali, Mustafizur Rahman.
Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto was delighted after the coin flipped in his favour and expressed his hope to restrict India to a small total.
“Would like to restrict them to a small total and chase it down,” Shanto said. “We know the conditions, the wind factor, hopefully, we can execute. Good wicket. 150-160 is a good score.”
India’s skipper Rohit Sharma shared that he would have batted first, terming the pitch good to bat on.
“We would’ve batted. Good pitch to bat on, depends on how much the sun bakes the surface and slows it down,” said Rohit.
India and Bangladesh have come face to face 13 times in the shortest format. The Men in Blue emerged victorious 12 times while Bangladesh managed to taste triumph only once.
Matches 13, India 12, Bangladesh 1
In T20 World Cups, however, the two sides locked horns four times with India possessing a perfect record.
Matches 4, India 4, Bangladesh 0
India, one of the favourites, are having an ideal T20 World Cup 2024 campaign thus far as the former champions are yet to lose a match.
The 2007 champions continued their group-stage momentum in the Super Eights and registered a comfortable victory over Afghanistan.
On the contrary, Bangladesh, who did well in the group stage, got off to an unwanted start to the Super Eight stage as Australia humbled them.
