The Director of the Pakistan men’s cricket team Mickey Arthur spoke highly of left-arm pacer Mohammad Amir, stating “he is still one of the best bowlers in the world”.
Arthur, who is also the head of Derbyshire County Cricket Club, called Amir an asset for his side.
Notably, Mohammad Amir joined Derbyshire as an overseas player for the first half of the 2024 season. He is likely to be available to play in the Championship and T20 Blast.
“Just very simply, he is still one of the best bowlers in the world. He swings it beautifully; he’s a match-winner. Amir is just what we needed for our setup. He is just a massive asset to us,” Arthur said.
It is pertinent to mention that Mickey Arthur and Mohammad Amir share a strong bond since the former was Pakistan’s head coach from 2016 to 2019.
Last year, Mohammad Amir lauded Mickey Arthur and credited him, alongside then captain Sarfaraz Ahmed, for his infamous match-winning spell against India in the final of the ICC Champions Trophy 2017.
He dismantled the strong Indian top-order comprised of the then top-ranked batter Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Shikar Dhawan.
“Look people always laud my spell against India in the Champions Trophy but I think the credit for such performance goes to each and every player, who made their contribution in the process like Hasan, who was the best bowler of the tournament, Junaid Khan, and Rumman Raees, who did well in the semi-final against England,” Amir stated while speaking in ARY News’ show Bouncer (Champions Trophy Special).
“The credit for my performance goes to Safi Bhai [Sarfaraz Ahmed] and Mickey Arthur the most since they showed confidence in my abilities and backed me despite coming out of the injury.
“Rumman, too, had done brilliantly in the semi-finals, so they had a strong reason to carry the same Playing XI and drop me but they didn’t and thankfully I didn’t let them down.”
