‘I’ll stick with India’ Ponting predicts winner of Indo-Pak clash in Asia Cup

DUBAI: Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting backed India to win their much-awaited clash against the arch-rivals Pakistan in the upcoming Asia Cup 2022.

Ponting, while featuring in the latest episode of ICC Review, responded to the host Sanjana Ganesan’s query to pick the winner of the upcoming clash between India and Pakistan in Asia Cup 2022 and predicted the defending champions to emerge victorious.

“I’ll stick with India to win that clash (August 28 match) against Pakistan. That’s taking nothing away from Pakistan because they are an incredible cricket nation that continues to present out-and-out superstar players,” Ponting said.

The legendary Australian captain then went on to term India the favourites to win the Asia Cup by asserting that they are tough opponents to beat in any tournament.

“It’s always hard to go past India in any tournament, not just an Asia Cup, but I think every time we talk about the T20 World Cup which is coming up, I think that India will be right in the thick of it there,” Ponting predicted.

“Their depth is definitely better than the other teams and I think India will win the Asia Cup,” he continued.

It is pertinent to mention here that the arch-rivals Pakistan and India will square off in the second match of the Asia Cup 2022 on August 28.

Furthermore, the last time two sides locked horns in a T20I, Pakistan outclassed India by 10 wickets to register their maiden victory over their arch-rivals in a world cup game.
